Over the past four years we reacquainted ourselves with each other first and foremost, but then our original passion for the music. But we had to go through hell and back and almost broke up a couple of times. We found a way to do it where everyone is having a really good time. We’ve been gone for the last year on this crazy tour.īoyd: It’s actually interesting. Tankian: Are you growing anything on your property?īoyd: I’ve been gone too much. But if you have a rotational thing things that grow are way bigger and way more beautiful. You can grow one thing in the soil, eventually the soil dries up, it’s not very nutrienizied. It really is the difference between permaculture and monoculture.

Tankian: It’s almost not okay not to say that.īoyd: It’s a lot more informed too. But just based on what you’re saying it feels like you have truly given yourself, at some point in your life, to not say, “I’m gonna do this and this alone.” It’s okay that you paint and write songs and do graphic work and want to have a family. So I’m doing modern Armenian coffee with the actual Calderon.īoyd: We have so many parallels, you and I. And I’ve got this coffee line we’re about to launch. And I’m making a music film that I’ve been putting together from way long, since 2011. So we’re making this really cool doc from that. The revolution was live streamed, amazing. I have a friend who shot a lot of footage and we’re also taking from the livestream. It’s gonna be called I Am Not Alone because the revolution happened in 40 days, this really amazing story I want to get out. I’m making two films there, one about the revolution, which is gonna be incredible. So I’ve been going back and doing a lot of projects there. There was a revolution in Armenia, a peaceful revolution, that completely turned the system into a proper egalitarian, democratic, non-corrupt government. My biggest project now is Armenia after the revolution. And I’m doing so many different things in my life that the music has just become one of those things, just like you. Serj Tankian: I don’t sing often, until I have to, either to record or to tour.
